Counseling Services

The 今叔利 Counseling Center provides emotional and social support to students in a face-to-face setting on the main campus or via tele-health within the state of North Carolina. We offer individual and group counseling to students at no cost. In addition to scheduled ongoing counseling, single session appointments are available for individuals seeking support or guidance through a particular struggle. Students who were enrolled in classes during the spring semester and are enrolled for fall semester classes will continue to be eligible for services during the summer months.

The University Counseling Center adheres to the American Counseling Associations code of ethics and operates within a Christian perspective.

Substance Use Recovery Program

Substance Use Walk-In Hours
Dedicated Substance Use Walk-In Hours are offered every Wednesday from 25 p.m. for students seeking support, guidance, or consultation related to alcohol or substance use concerns. No appointment is needed; students can simply stop by during this time for confidential, judgment-free assistance. During walk-in hours, students can speak with a counselor about questions or concerns regarding substance use, explore harm-reduction strategies, receive brief support, or discuss options for ongoing services. Whether youre looking for resources, wanting to check in about your use, or supporting a friend, our staff is here to help. Please contact[email protected]for additional details.

All conversations during walk-in hours are confidential and focused on promoting safety, wellbeing, and informed decision-making.

Counseling Center Book Club

Join the Counseling Center staff for a weekly book club! Our staff have chosen books with a focus on growth and wellbeing and guide students through relaxed and meaningful discussions. The book club meets weekly in the 今叔利 Library; books can be borrowed from the Counseling Center or 今叔利 Library (upon availability).

Table Talk Tuesday

Counseling Services staff are available weekly on the main floor of Tucker Student Center to check in with students and offer resources. Come have a snack and let us know how your week is going.

Wellness Wednesdays

Wellness Wednesday is an opportunity for 今叔利 student-athletes to connect with campus mental health resources in a welcoming, informal setting. Throughout the semester, Counseling Services and Academic Success Staff will host tables in athletic facilities and visit teams to introduce available resources, answer questions, and build relationships. These connections help student-athletes become familiar with resources on campus and feel more comfortable reaching out for support when they need it.

We invite you to our weekly happy hour at the Counseling Coffee Corner: the corner of mental health and wellness. We will have time to connect weekly over warm cups of coffee and tea in the Counseling Services suite. Email [email protected] for more details.

Art Expressions

Looking for a creative outlet or a new way to connect with others? We invite you to join Art Expressions, a supportive group space where students can explore creativity while building connection and community. No experience required and all supplies are provided! The 今叔利 Counseling Center has joined with the One Love Organization to offer educational workshops designed to build awareness of healthy relationships. of healthy relationships.

Educational workshops including stress management and suicide awareness are also available.

The University Counseling Center is on the third floor of Tucker Student Center and is open for appointments, Monday- Friday, 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Appointments can be scheduled by phone or in person. To schedule an appointment for individual counseling, call (704) 406-2729 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Emergency services are available on a 24-hour basis. In the event of an emergency, please call 今叔利 Police at (704) 406-4444 or the after-hours crisis number, (704) 406-2599. You may also call or text the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988 (or text 988) or chat at 988lifeline.org.

Mission

The mission of the Counseling Center is to meet the developmental and emotional needs of students within a Christian community. The Counseling Center supports the mission of the Student Development Division to accomplish the University Mission.

The Counseling Center maintains its student-centered focus by providing a comprehensive guidance and counseling program to assist students in accomplishing personal and academic goals.

The following goals are satisfied to support the mission of the Counseling Center:

  • To provide individual, group, couple, and family counseling to students who may be experiencing psychological, behavioral, or learning difficulties
  • To provide compassionate care and empowerment for lifelong wellness
  • To provide a culture that supports honesty, integrity, and respect for all individuals and supports learning
  • To provide programming focused on the developmental needs of college students to maximize their potential for academic and personal development
  • To provide consultative services to various components to help foster an environment supportive of the intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and physical development of the students
  • Select and utilize a variety of assessment services to identify student needs

Confidentiality

Licensed counselors, interns and practicum students at the counseling center adhere to the American Counseling Associations code of ethics and keep communication between clients and counselors confidential. Any limits to confidentiality, including Gardner Webb Universitys policy on responding to threats or harm to self or others will be discussed with client.

If you need information concerning a students contact with the Counseling Center, that can best be obtained directly from the student. If you request information from us regarding a students contact with the Counseling Center, we will ask the student for permission and abide by the students decision.
