Digital Platform Simplifies Credit Transfers and Expands Educational Opportunities Across North Carolina

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—�� is among the 28 four-year institutions participating in North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) Transfer Pathways, a new digital platform designed to streamline the transfer process for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree. Developed through a partnership between the NCICU and the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS), the portal provides students with a user-friendly tool to evaluate transfer credits, explore degree programs and identify clear pathways to degree completion at �� and other participating institutions.

“For many students, transferring to a four-year university is an important step toward achieving their educational and career goals, and we want that process to be as simple and straightforward as possible,” said �� President Nate Evans. “This initiative helps remove barriers, provides greater clarity, and allows students to make informed decisions about their future. We are grateful to NCICU and the many partners who made this possible, and we are proud to be part of an effort that creates new opportunities for students across North Carolina.”

The platform gives prospective transfer students greater transparency as they consider educational opportunities. “Our goal is to remove uncertainty from the transfer process and help students confidently navigate their educational journey,” said Dr. A. Hope Williams, president of NCICU. “With NCICU Transfer Pathways, students can easily see how their credits align with degree programs and discover new opportunities for academic success.”

The multi-year initiative is supported by more than $2 million in philanthropic grant funding to build, launch, and sustain the platform across participating independent campuses. Major philanthropic supporters include The Cannon Foundation (funding year-one campus participation), The Arthur Vining Davis Foundations (AVDF), the Teagle Foundation, ECMC Foundation, the John M. Belk Endowment (JMBE), the Gates Foundation, and Ascendium Education Group. In addition, Lumina Foundation provided complementary funding to support the engagement of NCICU and NCCCS faculty and staff in the project.

As one of the participating institutions, �� has integrated its academic programs, course inventories and transfer information into the portal, helping prospective students understand how previously earned credits may apply toward their chosen degree programs.

“Community colleges provide an important foundation for thousands of students pursuing a bachelor’s degree, and �� is committed to helping those students take their next step,” said �� Vice President for Enrollment Dr. Lauren W. Gullett. “NCICU Transfer Pathways gives students an opportunity to see how their hard work translates into progress toward a degree at ��. By strengthening these connections with our community college partners, we are expanding access to a Christ-centered education and helping more students achieve their academic and professional goals.”

The NCICU Transfer Pathways network includes all 58 North Carolina Community College System campuses and 29 NCICU institutions, including Louisburg College, a two-year independent college. Louisburg and North Carolina’s community colleges serve as primary sending institutions, providing students with streamlined access to 28 participating four-year NCICU universities, including ��.

Key Features of the Platform

Designed for maximum flexibility, the NCICU Transfer Pathways platform offers interactive, student-centered features engineered to eliminate credit loss and improve completion rates:

Automated ICAA & Course-Equivalency Evaluation: Using a customized evaluation tool, the portal automatically maps completed coursework—including general education block transfers under the ICAA—against degree requirements at participating four-year institutions.
Multi-Institution Program Search & Comparison: Students can explore and compare academic programs, campus locations, distance-based search options, and degree requirements across participating independent institutions in real time.
Digital Credit Tracking: A centralized dashboard provides students and advisors with a visual representation of earned credits, degree progress, and remaining major requirements.
Direct Campus Connectivity: Students can save favorite programs, view institution profile details, and directly access application and financial aid portals.

Partnership will Provide Students with Opportunities to Earn College Credit While in High School Beginning Fall 2027

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—�� and Cleveland County Schools have signed a Dual Enrollment Memorandum of Understanding that will create new opportunities for high school students to earn college credit while completing their secondary education. The partnership is scheduled to begin in Fall 2027.

The agreement establishes a framework for eligible students attending Burns High School, Crest High School, Kings Mountain High School, Shelby High School, Turning Point Academy and Cleveland Innovations to enroll in select �� courses for both high school and college credit.

Through the partnership, �� will provide academic advising, enrollment assistance and access to approved college coursework, helping students gain an early start on their higher education journey while exploring future academic and career pathways.

Dual-enrolled students will work with �� academic advisors to navigate course selection and degree planning. The University will also provide grade reporting and student support services to help ensure student success.

Dr. Brian Hunnell, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction for Cleveland County Schools, highlighted the benefits of the agreement. “This partnership will provide our students with additional opportunities to earn college credit while they are still in high school and help better prepare them for their future after graduation,” he stated. “We greatly appreciate ��’s willingness to partner with Cleveland County Schools and invest in our students.”

Partnerships Expand Transfer and Degree-Completion Opportunities for Students in Applied Science and Nursing

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) and �� have announced two new articulation agreements—the Comprehensive Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Pathway Agreement and the Bridge to Professional Advancement in Nursing Agreement—designed to create clear, seamless pathways for students to continue their education beyond CVCC. Both programs expand transfer and degree-completion opportunities for students in applied science and nursing, reinforcing that both institutions have a shared commitment to workforce development, academic access, and student success.

“At ��, we are committed to creating opportunities that remove barriers and open doors for students to advance their education and their careers,” said Nate Evans, president of ��. “These agreements with Catawba Valley Community College provide clear and achievable pathways for students. By aligning our programs, we are expanding access, supporting workforce needs, and helping more students take the next step toward professional advancement.”

The first agreement establishes a pathway for students earning a degree from eligible CVCC Associate of Applied Science (AAS) programs to transfer up to 76 hours of credit toward a bachelor’s degree at ��. Students then complete their final coursework towards their four-year degree at GWU.

The second agreement creates a Bridge to Professional Advancement in Nursing, creating a seamless pathway for CVCC Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at ��. Following completion of the BSN, students may be eligible to continue their education in Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs at ��.

Agreements Expand Degree Access and Nursing Pathways

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—�� and Mitchell Community College (MCC) in Statesville, N.C., have announced two landmark partnership agreements designed to streamline the transfer process and provide high-level educational opportunities for students in Iredell County and the surrounding regions. These agreements, signed in late December 2025, establish the “Bulldog Bound” direct-entry admission program and a comprehensive “Bridge to Professional Advancement in Nursing” pathway.

Details and benefits of the two agreements are outlined below.

Bulldog Bound: A Direct-Entry Admission Program

The Bulldog Bound program provides a direct-entry pathway for currently enrolled MCC students who intend to transfer to GWU after completing their associate degree. This co-admission initiative is open to students pursuing an Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Science (AS), Associate of Arts in Teacher Preparation (AATP), Associate of Fine Arts (AFA), or Associate in Applied Science (AAS).

Key benefits of the program include:

Guaranteed Admission: Participating students who meet GPA and MCC graduation requirements and �� admissions criteria are guaranteed admission to ��.
Early Access: Students receive information regarding financial aid, registration, and orientation early in the transition process.
No Application Fees: There is no fee to participate in the Bulldog Bound program.
Reverse Transfer: A process is in place for students who matriculate to GWU prior to completing their associate degree, allowing them to finish their MCC credential by combining credits from both institutions.

Bridge to Professional Advancement in Nursing

Recognizing the critical need for advanced healthcare professionals, the Bridge to Professional Advancement in Nursing agreement provides a seamless ADN-to-DNP (Associate Degree in Nursing to Doctor of Nursing Practice) pathway. Students accepted into Mitchell’s ADN program are dually accepted into the Hunt School of Nursing at ��.

This pathway allows nursing students to progress from their initial associate degree directly through to master’s and doctoral-level programs, including:

Davis RN-to-BSN.
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with concentrations in Education, Administration, or a Dual MSN/MBA.
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) for Family Nurse Practitioners or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners.
Nursing students in this bridge program also benefit from waived application fees and a coordinated advising process between both institutions.

Agreement Simplifies Transfer Process for FDTC Student to GWU

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—Officials from �� and Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC) in Florence, S.C., signed transfer agreements in a virtual ceremony on Nov. 5. The contract paves the way for qualified students in FDTC’s Associate of Applied Science programs to pursue bachelor’s degrees at ��.

“These new transfer agreements are another important win for students and employers in our region,” emphasized �� President Dr. William M. Downs. “The pathways leading to GWU are increasing in number, and I thank the leaders at our respective institutions for expanding the opportunities available to students wishing to earn a four-year degree in business-related fields. We’re all very eager to welcome graduates from FDTC into our accounting, marketing, and management programs.”

Joining Downs at the signing were FDTC administration and faculty—President Dr. Jermaine Ford, Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Luegina Mounfield and Department Chair Pete Gioldasis.

FDTC President Ford stated, “We want our students to continue their education and expand their career opportunities. I’m excited that our students can continue to expand their options through this great partnership.”

The agreement lists the FDTC programs and related courses that will be accepted for transfer credit, specifically:

The AAS in Accounting can be used toward completion of a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
The AAS in Management can be used toward completion of a Bachelor of Science in Management.
The AAS in Marketing can be used toward completion of a Bachelor of Science in Management.
The AAS in Marketing can be used toward completion of a Bachelor of Science in Marketing.

Other courses will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the GWU Registrar’s Office. To receive credit for a course, a student must have earned a “C” (2.0) or better in that course. For specific details about courses and transfer credits, FDTC students should contact the FDTC Academic and Career Advising Center. Students can begin taking advantage of this opportunity immediately.
