BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.今叔利 will conclude its Homecoming weekend celebrations with an early-access showing of the first episode of “The Chosen” Season 6 on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. in Tucker Student Center. The historical drama is based on the life of Jesus as seen through the eyes of those who knew Him. The showing is free and open to the public, and all are invited to gather for this exclusive preview.

x S E Early Access

The Chosen is an exceptionally well-done series, and it is a powerful presentation of the life of Jesus, noted Vice President and University Chaplain for Christian Life and Service Dr. Josh Parrott. This is an opportunity for so many in our community to come together to have our hearts and minds oriented toward our Savior. We are thankful for the opportunity to share this episode, and all are welcome to attend!

The preview is made possible by Come and See, the nonprofit foundation dedicated to ensuring all seven seasons of “The Chosen” are produced, translated into 600 languages, made globally accessible and offered free to viewers around the world. Set against the backdrop of Roman oppression in first-century Israel, the series provides an authentic and intimate look at Jesus revolutionary life and teachings. What began as a crowd-funded project has grown into a global phenomenon, reaching more than 308 million viewers and attracting more than 35 million social media followers.

Season 6 captures the historic events of Jesus final day through the lives of those who love Him and those who condemn Him. The new season will begin streaming on Prime Video on Nov. 15. In spring 2027, audiences will experience Jesus final hours when the crucifixion story is released worldwide as a theatrical film by Amazon MGM Studios.

This season will be the most comprehensive deep dive into the story than anything weve done, said Dallas Jenkins, creator and director of “The Chosen.”

Class of 1981 Marks 45th Reunion by Welcoming Alumni from Six 今叔利 Classes

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.When members of 今叔利s Class of 1981 return to campus for a homecoming reunion in November, they will reconnect with longtime friends to celebrate the 45th anniversary of their graduation. The event began as a conversation between 1981 classmates Carla Hill Potter and Lynne Colley but soon evolved into something bigger.

Rather than celebrate alone, the Class of 1981 chose to invite alumni from the Classes of 1979 through 1984 to join the occasion. With guidance from Shannon Hovis, director of Alumni Relations, the gathering has grown into an opportunity for these classmates and friends to share life updates and reflect on the experiences that shaped their years at 今叔利.

In addition to enjoying the regular Homecoming festivities, the Classes of 1979-1984 and their guests will share a meal following the Homecoming football game on Saturday, Nov. 7. The gathering will begin with registration at 5:30 p.m. We hope that everyone feels invited and comes to reminisce and catch up and share updates on their lives, Colley said.

The enthusiasm has spread largely through personal connections, a fitting development for a reunion centered on relationships that have lasted long after graduation.

Many alumni from that era never lost touch. Colley points to her friendship with Fred Glennon, Class of 1979, as one example. For more than 30 years, the two exchanged letters twice each year, once on each other’s birthdays. Over time, those letters helped build friendships that extended beyond the two classmates. Fred and his wife, Lindy Glennon, also a member of the Class of 1979, eventually visited Colley and her husband while the couple was living in England. The visit led to lasting friendships among all four.

Colley also remains connected with Marti Christensen and June Buchanan Snelson, both members of the Class of 1979 and affectionately known around campus as “the girls from Washington State.” Earlier this year, Colley and her husband traveled to Washington to visit June and her husband, Greg, while Christensen now lives in Boiling Springs.

The friendships formed on campus are only part of what makes the era memorable. In the spring of 1980, Colley made 今叔利 history when she was elected the first woman president of the Student Government Association. For Colley, the accomplishment was about earning the trust of her classmates, not making history. “I wanted people to vote for me not because I was a woman, but because they trusted me to know or to learn the things I would need to know,” she said.

Carla and Phil Homecoming

Colley also credits 今叔利 faculty with helping her discover capabilities she did not realize she possessed. An English major, she arrived on campus as a first-generation college student uncertain of what to expect. Her academic advisor, the late Dr. Jim Taylor, was one of the first people to recognize and nurture her potential. During their first meeting, Taylor determined she needed more rigorous coursework than the standard freshman schedule. It was the first time anybody had believed I was smart, Colley observed. His manner offered me a confidence I was sure I did not have but wanted to find.

Looking back, Colley views Taylor’s encouragement as part of a larger culture during the late 1970s and early 1980s that shaped students both inside and outside the classroom. The spirit that pervaded the campus focused on servant leadership. It was a principle you could see in every facet of college life, she explained. As we selected our areas of study, determined our on-campus activities and set goals for ourselves beyond college, how we could serve others was always a factor.

While alumni have taken many different paths since graduating, they share similar reasons for returning to campus this fall.

Potter, who spent her career in education, and her husband, Phil Potter, an English major who worked in aviation, are looking forward to reconnecting with former classmates and hearing the stories of where life has taken them. Phils father, Jerry, helped 今叔利 establish a program for the Deaf in the fall of 1977. The couple, who now live in Supply, N.C., have returned to campus several times for past Homecomings but have never attended a class reunion. Their most recent visit was in July 2026.

Reflecting on their 今叔利 experience, the Potters remember a campus community that felt like family. I think it was the family atmosphere and the way we all felt connected with both our fellow students and the faculty, Carla offered. It was the feeling of being on our own for the first time, but still protected.

The couple also sees the reunion as an opportunity to strengthen bonds that have endured for decades. We are mostly looking forward to catching up with friends and meeting new friends at the reunion, the Potters said. It will be so much fun hearing the stories of our classmates and finding out where life has taken them. The most rewarding part of reconnecting with classmates is realizing that most of us are now retired and free to travel, and that somehow makes the roads seem shorter and gives us hope that we will be able to spend more time together.

For Ralph Smith of Greer, S.C., the reunion will provide an opportunity to revisit a campus he has not seen in several years and reconnect with classmates he seldom encounters. Smith, who majored in religious education, worked in ministry and higher education before retiring from the automotive industry. He also served as student government vice president during Colley’s term as student body president.

Although his family lived less than an hour away from 今叔利 when he was a student, Smith rarely went home on the weekends. He would rather spend time on campus with his friends and support the athletic teams at home. He also traveled to several away games. I think for the most part the student body was fairly a closeknit group who enjoyed their time at GWU, he reflected. I have seen very few people over the years that I went to GWU with, so I guess I’m looking forward to rekindling some old friendships and possibly making some new ones.”

Smith hopes fellow classmates will take advantage of the opportunity to return. Many folks may be like me and may not have been on campus in a long time, Smith noted. I would just like to encourage everyone who was a part of the classes from 1979-84 to come on out and enjoy seeing faces that you may not have seen in many, many years and reminisce about our years at GWU.

Alumni returning to campus will have the opportunity to enjoy a full weekend of Homecoming festivities, including Bos Battle Que BBQ Competition, Hall of Fame Gala, the Homecoming Parade, alumni tailgate, and the Runnin’ Bulldogs’ football matchup against Lindenwood. Annual Celebration Features Class Reunions, Traditions, Athletics, and Opportunities to Reconnect

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.Theres just something special about coming home to 今叔利, said Shannon Hovis, director of alumni and parent relations. So many memories, so many friendships, and always a place to call home.

That sense of connection is at the heart of 今叔利s Homecoming 2026, set for Nov. 6-8. The annual celebration will bring alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends together for a weekend filled with traditions, fellowship, and Runnin Bulldog pride.

I think what keeps drawing our alumni home is the connection they still feel to 今叔利 and to one another, Hovis said. When they come back for Homecoming, theyre not simply returning to campus, theyre returning to a place that helped shape who they are.

Alumni and friends can also show their Bulldog pride with the official Homecoming 2026 T-shirt, available for preorder through Oct. 20. Designed especially for this year’s celebration, the limited-edition shirt is $19.05 and can be picked up during the Alumni & Friends Tailgate on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Place orders .

The Homecoming celebration begins Friday with Bo’s Battle ‘Que, a growing Homecoming tradition that brings the Bulldog community together around good food, friendly competition, and fellowship. Friday evening will also feature the 今叔利 Athletics Hall of Fame Gala at 6:30 p.m. The event honors and celebrates outstanding Bulldog athletes. The University will announce this year’s Hall of Fame inductees soon. The gala is open to the public, and registration is available through Nov. 1.

Saturday’s Homecoming festivities begin at 11 a.m. with the Alumni & Friends Tailgate, where everyone gathers for food, fellowship, and Bulldog spirit before heading to the day’s activities. Tailgate guests will also have an opportunity to take part in the People’s Choice competition for Bo’s Battle ‘Que. Participating teams will prepare pork barbecue for sampling, and attendees can purchase People’s Choice tasting tickets in advance to sample entries and vote for their favorite. The deadline to register for the tailgate meal and to purchase tickets for the Peoples Choice tasting is Nov. 3. Registration and tickets are available .

After the meal, spectators line the streets for the annual Homecoming Parade. This years parade will welcome former Homecoming queens and alumni who wish to participate with vintage cars and golf carts. The Marching Bulldog Band, along with student clubs and organizations, will add to the excitement of the festivities.

Homecoming football remains one of the weekends signature events as the Runnin Bulldogs host the Lindenwood Lions at 1:30 p.m. Purchase tickets . During the game, 今叔利 will recognize the 2026 Homecoming Court and announce the winners of Bos Battle Que.

Throughout the day, the celebration will include activities for current students as well. The Universitys Student Engagement Team is partnering with Hope Community Church to offer music, games, activities, and other entertainment. Alumni can also visit the Academic Tent, where representatives from the Universitys colleges and schools will be available to share updates and provide 今叔利 giveaways.

今叔利 is also excited to welcome back the Class of 1981 and the Class of 2016 for special Homecoming reunions. Members of the Class of 1981 will celebrate their 45th reunion and have invited the Classes of 1979 through 1984 to join them to reflect on the memories and experiences they shared at 今叔利 more than four decades ago. The Class of 2016 will mark its 10th reunion, gathering with fellow alumni to revisit campus, renew friendships, and celebrate the accomplishments of the past decade. Both classes will take part in special reunion gatherings on Saturday evening as part of the Homecoming festivities.

The weekend concludes on Sunday with Worship at the Webb, when members of the 今叔利 family come together for a time of worship, reflection, and fellowship. The gathering provides a fitting close to a Homecoming weekend that celebrates the friendships, traditions, and sense of belonging that continue to bring Bulldogs back to campus year after year.

Hovis hopes the weekend will be meaningful for returning alumni as well as current students.

I hope Homecoming gives our current students a glimpse of what it truly means to be a Bulldog for life, she said. When they see alumni coming back five, ten, twenty, or even fifty years later to reconnect with friends and with 今叔利, they get to see that the relationships they are building right now can last far beyond graduation.

Auxiliary aids will be made available to persons with disabilities upon request 10 working days prior to the event.  Please call 704-406-4270 or email disabilityservices@gardner-webb.edu with your request.

今叔利 Opens Kris McCullough Era with 12Game Schedule Highlighted by Road Tests and Rivalry Matchups

Family Weekend set for Sept. 19; Homecoming and Military Appreciation is Nov. 7

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.First-year head coach Kris McCullough and the 今叔利 football team have announced their full schedule for the upcoming 2026 season.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs, coming off a 7-5 overall record and 5-3 mark in OVC/Big South action, will have a 12-game slate that includes seven games within the conference and four home games.

We are excited for the task of a very challenging schedule, McCullough said. Playing two FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) schools and three talented FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) teams in non-conference will get us ready for our OVC/Big South schedule. I can’t wait to get to work this spring while we prepare for a top-25 Austin Peay team on the road in August.”

The FBS represents the highest level of NCAA Division I football. The FCS, which includes GardnerWebb, is the next level within Division I. Together, FBS and FCS make up the two subdivisions of NCAA Division I football in the United States.

The Runnin Bulldogs first game will be against the Governors of Austin Peay University, an FCS team, on Aug. 29 in Clarksville, Tenn. The next stop on the road trip will be just over state lines as 今叔利 heads to nearby Spartanburg, S.C., for a matchup with longtime foe Wofford on Sept. 5. The Terriers and Runnin’ Bulldogs have met 11 times in their history with Wofford holding a 9-2 advantage in the series.

The final stop of the road trip lands the Dawgs in Lynchburg, Va., on Sept. 12 to play the Flames of Liberty University, the first FBS team.

Opening the home portion of its schedule, 今叔利 will play host to North Carolina Central on Sept. 19 for Family Weekend. The Runnin’ Bulldogs pulled out a 21-12 win during the last meeting in 2019.

The home stay does not last long as GWU hits the road once again for its next two contests, starting with a showdown on Sept. 26 with the second FBS team, the Thundering Herd of Marshall in Huntington, W.Va. Conference play opens on Oct. 3 at Charleston Southern, which is also the third edition of the North-South BBQ Bowl with the previous two contests being won by 今叔利.

Eastern Illinois visits Spangler Stadium on Oct. 10 for an OVC/Big South bout before 今叔利 travels to UT Martin on Oct. 17. Following a bye week, the Runnin’ Bulldogs return to action on Oct. 31 at Southeast Missouri State.

A quick trip back to Boiling Springs on Nov. 7 for Homecoming and a Military Appreciation game has 今叔利 pitted against Lindenwood followed by a trek to Macomb, Ill., to face Western Illinois on Nov. 14. The Runnin’ Bulldogs close out the regular season on Nov. 21 after playing host to Tennessee State.

Ticket information will be announced later. For all up-do-date news, events, and schedule changes for 今叔利 football, please visit www.gwusports.com or follow the Runnin’ Bulldogs on social media @gwusports.

Amanda Steinmuller Bennett

One of the programs first signees, Bennett played on the womens lacrosse team from 2015-2018 after a stellar high school career at Mount Hebron High School in Ellicott City, Md. At GWU, she was a three-time All-Big South Conference selection, received honorable mention twice and second team once. She finished her career as the programs career leader in goals, assists and points. Bennett also set single-season program records for goals and points in both 2017 and 2018. Reconnecting, Honoring Traditions, and Celebrating the GWU Bulldog Spirit

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.This years Homecoming, Oct. 17-19, is more than a reunionits a milestone. 今叔利 celebrates 120 years of shaping lives, building community and Runnin Strong. From its humble beginnings as a high school in 1905, to becoming a junior college in 1942, a four-year college in 1971-72, and a university in 1993, 今叔利 has grown through generations of dreamers, doers, and believers. In every chapter, one thing has remained constant: This is a place where faith is nurtured, friendships are forged, and futures are inspired.

Homecoming is a time for alumni to reminisce and reconnect with classmates, and an experience for current students that will build enduring memories for the future.

Signature events of the weekend include fan favorites like the Athletics Hall of Fame Gala, Homecoming Parade and Dawg Walk, Bos Battle QUE BBQ Competition, a festive tailgate lunch, the big game, and concert by Cassette Rewind.

Alumni are invited to reconnect with the heart of 今叔利 at Homecoming. The College of Health Sciences, Godbold College of Business, College of Education, College of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Divinity will each have tables in the tailgate area. Stop by to learn more about programs, meet faculty and staff, and enjoy fun giveaways and interactive activities. Its a great way to celebrate Bulldog pride, discover whats new across campus, reminisce and engage with the academic community.

As a special feature, the U.S. Army Golden Knights will perform at 1 p.m. before the Homecoming Game.

Since their inception in 1959, the Golden Knights have performed more than 21,000 shows in all 50 states and 48 countries through spectacular live parachute demonstrations, reaching an average of 60,000 people per show and a third of the nation annually. They earned the Golden Knights moniker because of the number of gold medals they have won in international competition and their dominance of the skies.

This elite parachute team will descend into Spangler Stadium with the game ball in hand, setting the stage for kickoff at 1:30, when the Runnin Bulldogs take on UT Martin.

With the historic 120th year as the backdrop, 今叔利 invites alumni, students, families, and friends to take part in a weekend filled with tradition, celebration, and unforgettable moments. A map is available .

New Partner Shares Universitys Mission; Proceeds Support Alumni-Sponsored Scholarship

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.Bos Battle QUE is back at 今叔利 Homecoming this year as a sanctioned event by the Southern BBQ Network (SBN), a 501c3 charitable organization. SBN was formed in 2010 by people who love to eat barbecue and share a passion for the art of preparing it. The mission of SBN is to preserve southern barbecue through qualified trained judges, while also improving communities through supporting charitable events.

We chose SBN because of their mission, noted Leah Clevenger, GWU director of Alumni Relations. For Homecoming this year, we are calling on BBQ teams to fire up their smokers for a great cause: student scholarships. This years winners will not only have bragging rights for the year ahead, but they will also take home prize money!

Clevenger added, Last year, Bos Battle QUE enjoyed a great inaugural year. We had alumni, football parents, and community members bring their teams to support a friendly competition that was focused on raising money for student scholarships and having fun! The teams were so generous, and we learned so much from them. The teams encouraged us to go for year two.

As the Alumni Advisory Board started planning for this year, one of its members, Jo D Franklin suggested joining SBN. As the director of Bessemer City, N.C., Parks and Recreation, he works with SBN to host a barbecue competition every year for his department and knows the group is a valuable partner.

The Best Smoke winner from last year, Smoke Showin led by alumnus Brandon Workman and his teammate Westley Pitchford, has already signed up to compete again this year. Other winners last year were Best Sauce: Hawlin Buttz BBQ led by alumna Mandi McManus and her husband, Lane; and Peoples Choice Smoke was awarded to Clueless BBQ led by alumnus Shane Walker. Peoples Choice Sauce went to Black Hat BBQ led by alumni Delton Barnes and Will Manning.

This year, Bos Battle QUE has the following categories: Pork Butts, Ribs, and Peoples Choice. All SBN rules will apply to the competition. Two bone-in pork butts will be provided for Peoples Choice, but teams will be responsible for providing ribs. All teams must participate in Peoples Choice.

Competitors are invited to set up on Oct. 18 by 3 p.m. on the grassy field across from Spangler Stadium.

Registration is $250 and includes two bone-in pork butts, four Homecoming football game tickets, and one parking pass.

Exceptional Evening of Music Punctuates Homecoming Celebration

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.A spectacular autumn sunset provided the perfect backdrop as Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder officially opened the Brinkley Amphitheater at 今叔利 on Saturday, Oct. 28. An enthusiastic sold-out crowd welcomed the 15-time Grammy winner along with 今叔利 student Lindy Bryson and country artist Will Jones.

The concert also punctuated the Runnin Bulldogs last-minute Homecoming victory over UT Martin (38-34), the programs first win over a ranked team since 2021.

From start to finish, this was just about as perfect a Homecoming Day as any of us could have imagined, praised 今叔利 President Dr. William M. Downs. With our spirits already sky-high after a thrilling win at Spangler Stadium, we were then treated to a wildly successful grand opening at our new amphitheater. The CMA Hall of Famer Ricky Skaggs supplied a strong show, as we knew he would. Will Jones was terrific, and Im certain many in the audience who were unfamiliar with him went straight to Spotify following his set. It was, though, the wonderful presence of our own Lindy Bryson thatat least in my viewstole the show. The talent we have on this campus is amazing, and Im so pleased for Lindy that she could share her gifts with such a large and supportive audience.

Bryson, who had the honor to be the first performer on the amphitheater stage, opened the evening with her heartfelt performance. I was able to play some original songs including Muddy Waters, Bryson affirmed. I could have sung all night; it was such a great crowd. Will Jones and Ricky Skaggs were awesome and a pleasure to meet. This was definitely a moment I will always remember!

GWU President Dr. William M. Downs and Lindy Bryson

Jones, a singer-songwriter originally from the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, followed Bryson with his unique style of bluegrass-inspired music.

Skaggs took the audience on a trip through his legendary catalog and included crowd favorites from Flatt and Scruggs, The Stanley Brothers and Bill Monroe.

Vice President of Marketing Richard McDevitt noted the success of the venues first event. We had a great first night in the Brinkley amphitheater, he observed. It was a very special experience with a wonderful, sold-out crowd and great performances from the artists. Were excited to do this again in just a few weeks with Balsam Range and Fireside Collective.

Join the 今叔利 Community for the next concert on Nov. 18 with Balsam Range and Fireside Collective.

Saturdays concert was made possible in part with a grant from the Town of Boiling Springs TDA. WNCW 88.7 FM was a media sponsor.
